CDE Writing Retreat 2016

Stonebarrow Manor once again played host to the CDE Research Engineers Writing Retreat. Now in its third year the retreat is proving to be very popular with the students. This year Milto Miltiadou and Tom Weaver took the lead in making the arrangements on behalf of the students.

The Research Engineers confirmed that the Writing Retreat is an extremely useful element of the EngD. The level of workshops seems to increase every year. This year, two workshops were held

Quality Papers; delivered by Pam Lock, Pam runs regular Writers’ Retreats at the University of Bristol. Following a successful pilot in the Faculty of Arts in 2014, they have been taken up by other faculties, Academic Staff Development, the Bristol Doctoral College and DTEs.
Planning and writing your Thesis; delivered by Jon Reese.

These workshops are beneficial for adopting good organisation and writing habits, both of which are essential for surviving the final year of the EngD. In addition, it allows the students to improve their teamwork skills, which of course will be invaluable in future employment.

Well done to Milto and Tom for arranging a successful retreat.
