Congratulations to Fabio Turchet who has been approached to give a technical talk during the Chaos Group Conference in Sofia, Bulgaria on 25th October. He has accepted and will be jetting off to Bulgaria shortly to give a talk titled ‘Introduction to deformable objects models and muscle simulation’. Postdoctoral position at the University of York – Computer Learning of Memorable Images

A Postdoctoral Research Associate is sought to conduct cutting-edge research in an area on the boundary between Computer Science and Psychology.

You will be expected to develop and implement algorithms that would model what is memorable in images to humans. Algorithms will be tested on image regions identified by eye-tracking observer studies.

The aim of the project is to use computer algorithms informed by data from human observers in order to indicate the extent of image memorability.

The duration of the appointment is 6 months starting on 1st January 2016.

University of York Computer Science Department and Department of Psychology are currently ranked 7th and 4th, respectively in the UK according to the Research Excellence Framework 2014.

We offer internationally competitive salaries in a beautiful historic city.

The candidate must have a PhD degree in Computer Science, Psychology or Electrical Engineering, preferably in an area related to Image Processing/Computer Vision and/or Machine learning/Pattern Recognition. We are looking for candidates with a strong background in Matlab.

Knowledge of algorithms for image processing, analysis and machine learning is highly desired.
