Apply Now! Sony R&D Projects

Exceptional applicants needed for two projects with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Research and Development (SCEE R&D) in Virtual Reality and Neurogaming. These 4-year projects are fully funded with an annual tax-free stipend of £16,557 plus company contribution and funding for conferences and equipment.

Virtual Reality Project Proposal

We would like to provide an opportunity to do applied research in the field of VR technology, with the aim of creating better VR experiences for the end user.

This research would ideally focus on

  • More efficient content creation for VR applications (e.g. object/scene capture)
  • Exploring networked interactions between multiple VR users (e.g. voice to mouth movement, environment factors, eye tracking, avatars)
  • Exploring augmented reality and the interaction of VR with real world (e.g. overlaying physical world into virtual world)

The person

  • Knowledge areas: computer science, maths, physics, software engineering, video games
  • Good programming skills (languages: C/C++/C#)

Neurogaming Project Proposal

We would like to provide an opportunity to do applied research in the field of neurological and physical responses to games (both VR and non-VR) with the aim of creating better experiences for the end user.

This research would ideally focus on

  • Working with technologies that influence software directly with the user’s physical and mental state.
  • Combining various sensors to increase accuracy and reduce latency.
  • How to monitor and induce mental states triggered from specific gaming experiences such as “Flow”.

The person

  • Knowledge areas: neuroscience, EEG, eye tracking, maths, physics, video games
  • Some programming skills
