KIMA: participatory art, exploring sound and vision

Centre for Digital Entertainment and Analema Group

11 am – 5 pm (Sat, Mon, Tue, Wed)

Talbot Campus, Bournemouth University

Drop-in/art and theatre event

KIMA – meaning ‘wave’ in ancient Greek (‘kyma’) – interprets music as an interplay of light and form, it is an artistic quest for a new reading of sound. It uses mathematical equations of cymatics – sound waves creating patterns on matter to present sound visually. KIMA allows audiences to explore the relationship between sound and vision interactively. Launched at the Festival of Learning in 2014, KIMA has now evolved into a fully participatory, real-time environment which presents sound as form, colour, light and geometry. Using their voices, the audience will be invited to step inside the piece to contribute to a growing soundscape, both sonically and visually as part of a growing open forum.
