An OpenData toolkit for art/science collaborations
I’m based at Arts Catalyst, an arts organisation commissioning artists’ projects that engage with science.
I get to work with artists who are using digital technologies to either collect or present data - or both. My research is about how open source tools can be used to facilitate artists’ projects, especially at points where they intersect with communities or the public. For instance I am working with the Arctic Perspective Initiative who have among others, built small devices with peoples in the North and Arctic regions to capture and share data about their environment and its use. I am looking at how that data can be organised and distributed on the web for other artists and researchers to use.
