Through a series of different projects my doctoral research is tackling a problem facing many small companies and individuals, across all creative fields. More often than not the commercial restraints upon companies means projects are undertaken to meet the commercial demands (the needs) rather than the creative desires (the wants). This can hamper the ability for companies to develop their own IP and revenue streams.

Understanding these issues can develop methods through which to circumvent these limitations of small creative companies.  Thus projects are focusing on non-traditional sources of funding, audience engagement and experimentation with new methods of creative delivery, with research investigating ideas surrounding community, co-creation, engagement and motivation.
