Novel visualisations of scientific data and their impact on science education
My research concerns the visualisation of scientific data within the realm of secondary school science education. This involves the design of physical electronics and software used to measure scientific phenomena, the design of experimental protocols for teachers as well as identifying, assessing and differentiating the resultant learning.
Currently I am carrying out a sub-project to investigate the construction and display of graphs from readings recorded by data loggers in real-time, the educational impact that they have on practical school science activities, the effect that self-collection of data has on performance of graphing ability and collection and the categorisation of the technical barriers faced by electronic data-logging.
